Where to See Fall Leaves in Flagstaff: Our Favorite Spots

By TrekWest · Oct 9, 2026 · Flagstaff, Fall

Golden aspens and dark pines below the San Francisco Peaks on a clear October day near Flagstaff

As a photographer and the wife of a local guide, our team has plenty of favorite places to see fall leaves in Flagstaff. Here are the ones we send people to.

Downtown Flagstaff

Tree-lined streets, quaint buildings, shops, galleries and great coffee make a picture-book setting.

NAU campus

Park near Macy’s coffee shop and walk a 2-mile loop through campus. It feels more like an East Coast town and is ideal for walking.

Forest Service Roads 151 and 418 (Hart Prairie Road)

A dirt road that circles the base of the mountain, and it is stunning. It is best in an AWD vehicle.

Aspen Corner and Snowbowl Road

This is where everyone goes. Expect heavy traffic and long waits for parking. It is worth it, but it is probably the most packed place in Arizona this week of the year. You can also ride the ski lifts through the leaves to the top of the mountain.

Schultz Pass

Takes you to the east side of the mountain. It is much quieter, and trails like the Sunset Trail make for a more relaxing day among the trees than Aspen Corner.
